An 18th century chinoiserie lacquer cabinet on stand

England, c.1720

£18,000

  • An exceptional early 18th century japanned cabinet on stand, decorated in gilt with chinoiserie landscapes and figures on a black ground. The cabinet retains its original fitted interior of ten drawers and is likely still resting on its original stand, with elegant cabriole legs and shaped apron.

The stand retains a Georgian label inscribed: GEO NICHOLLS ESQ / FREE SCHOOL LANE / CAMBRIDGE, suggesting early provenance connected to the university town.
