A very fine pair of Louis XV style candlesticks

France, 19th century

  • An elegant and highly detailed pair of gilt-bronze candlesticks, in the Louis XV style, each modelled with tapering fluted stems rising from bold acanthus-cast bases. The stems are adorned with expressive bearded masks and intricate acanthus ornamentation, terminating in gadrooned circular bases. The casting is especially crisp.

    Identical to a pair dated c.1770 sold at Christie’s, London (Lot 114, 6th July 2016 - £15,000), though likely 19th century in date.
