what i look for
I’ve always been drawn to things with good patina. I believe it's what gives an object soul and helps to form interiors of a time-softened beauty. Good design is also important to me. This doesn’t necessarily mean sophisticated design, but design that is interesting and which sits comfortably and confidently with itself. I don't have a particular loyalty to a specific period or country of origin - I simply buy what I would be happy living with myself, but, admittedly, this does tend to lean towards an English taste in things.
Over the past sixty-plus years my family have specialised in furniture, and that's where the majority of my knowledge and passion lies, but I also find incredible amounts of joy in other things; pottery, textiles, lighting and carpets. I apply the same criteria to them as I do furniture; good design, patina and charm.
