A fine George I gilt gesso pier mirror

England, c.1715

  • Surmounted by scrolling acanthus and a central female mask flanked by out-swept eagles' heads. The bevelled plate is possibly original and fairly opaque in places. The candle branches are of a later date. A perfectly balanced and sophisticated design. Almost certainly by one of the top London makers.
