WILL GREEN AT RON GREEN INTRODUCES COLLECTION NO.1

This Autumn, fourth generation antique dealer, Will Green, will introduce his debut bespoke collection, Collection No.1. Complementing his growing antique offering, the elegant capsule of furniture and mirrors is inspired by coveted pieces that Will has owned and admired over the years.

Comprising an upholstered library chair, two sofas - the first deep and comfortable and the other more formal - a 19th century-inspired oak table, classically inspired mirrors, and the showpiece of the collection, a beautifully drawn day-bed inspired by the ‘Etruscan’ fashion of the late 18th century, each piece is designed by Will and handcrafted locally using traditional techniques and to the finest quality, using the finest possible materials. From the traditional horsehair and down upholstery to each brass barrel castor hand wrapped with leather, “the desire was to create the most beautiful historically-inspired pieces possible - thoughtfully designed and to the highest possible quality without cutting any corners and with no expense spared.” Says Will.

Imbued with the elusive and highly desirable time-softened quality that Will Green at Ron Green has become known for, it is the authentic and elegant design, coupled with the incredibly careful finish and patination, that sets the new bespoke collection apart, distinguishing it from others on the market. “I wanted the pieces to have a truly time-worn look from top to bottom, just as my antique pieces would have. Most bespoke pieces on the market use a light polish or wax finish, sometimes with subtle bits of shading on the wooden frames and legs, but we wanted to go a step further. We worked really hard to get the patination right and there were a lot of iterations. It took over a year, and the development of our own technique, to finally achieve the desired finish.”

Being taught from his earliest years to look, and to look intently, is the foundation of Will Green’s remarkable and alluring eye for quality and design. “I worked alongside my father and uncle under the Ron Green (founded in 1955) name for over a decade, so a venture under my own name, Will Green at Ron Green, was a natural progression - a place to share my own distinct eye”. Says Will.

Led by intrinsic instinct and a discerning eye, Will’s approach is deeply English with a freer, more artistic edge, lingering longer on the romance, the ‘soul’ of a piece. Will’s magic lies in his ability to strike the elusive tone of being both grand and humble, traditional yet fresh. Not loud or showy but instead quietly commanding attention, his pieces are always the best of their kind. Never over polished or restored and imbued with charm - the type of which are very hard to find. In addition to exploring a more subtly patinated mood, the Will Green stock explores more diversity, from lighting and textiles, to decorative objects. However, its core is naturally furniture. “It’s what my family have always specialised in and where the majority of my knowledge lies so it was an obvious decision to make furniture the basis of my first bespoke collection. I wanted to apply the same criteria to the pieces as I do to my antique acquisitions - good design, patina and charm.”

Collection No.1 will be available from October alongside Will Green’s antiques at: www.william-green.co.uk. The upholstered furniture can be supplied up to hessian for the customer to organise upholstery or can be upholstered in a fabric of your choice by Will and his team. Each piece is bespoke and can be made to order in various sizes.
